When the temperature starts to drop, I get in the mood to drink darker beers. I especially love a good stout on a cold winter day. One of the true delights of winter is that many breweries create these dark, and robust beers as their seasonal winter offering. One of those breweries that came out with a dark winter beer is Magic Hat. Based in Burlington, Vermont, Magic Hat has been brewing some of the most creative and innovative beers in New England since 1994. Some the more well known offerings include the #9, and Circus Boy. Magic Hat is well known also for having playful sayings on the back of every bottle cap. This year, Magic Hat has brewed the Heart of Darkness stout as one of their winter seasonal offerings. If you did not know, Stout is an dark beer that is brewed with roasted malts or barley. If you have had a Guinness before, you have had stout. Stout is a bit bitter, but not as bitter as an IPA. It sometimes has a coffee or bitter chocolate taste as well. The Heart of Darkness has all of the great qualities that are associated with stouts. It had a nice bitter quality, a hint of bitter chocolate, with a smooth finish. If you are a fan of stout, I suggest you try Magic Hat's Heart of Darkness this winter.
